We are part of a national network of nonpartisan, not-for-profit Kids Voting USA organizations that collaborate with schools and election officials to promote civic education and citizenship among K-12 students. Kids Voting is still working hard to promote civic engagement among the young people in our community!
Like many in our community, the Kids Voting Board is shocked to hear about the allegations against a teacher who served on our Kids Voting Board of Directors. The teacher has not been an active member for over a year. As an organization that values our system of government, including the judiciary branch, we trust the judicial system to play out the way it was intended.
We have never been alerted to concerns arising from the teacher’s involvement in our Board. As with much of our Board, his role with Kids Voting has been historically related to attending meetings, helping to plan events, and work that did not involve direct student contact. Safety and program integrity are always our number one priorities, and we have confidence that in our programming we have been successful in upholding those goals. While we have no concerns that student safety has been compromised as a result of the teacher’s involvement in our organization, in light of the allegations, the Board has agreed to suspend the teacher officially from our Board until further notice.
